Wildfire Update (RWF036) – May 18, 4:30 p.m.
Alberta Wildfire crews and assisting agencies have made strong progress over the last 24 hours, successfully establishing a containment perimeter around the fire. RWF036 is now classified as being held.
The fire is located about 5 km north of James-Wilson Provincial Recreation Area, 30 km west of Sundre, and 20 km southwest of Burnstick Lake, near Highway 40 and Highway 584.
Today, ground crews will continue reinforcing the dozer guard and fire lines, while also patrolling and addressing any remaining hotspots.
The evacuation alert for the area has been cancelled, but Clearwater County’s State of Local Emergency (SOLE) remains in effect to support resources.
Please continue to avoid the area and give firefighters and aircraft plenty of space to operate safely.
This will be the only update for Monday, May 18, unless conditions change.
