Garbage and Recycling Information

Please be advised that effective Sunday, January 31, 2021, the Rocky Transfer Station will be permanently closed

Disposal of garbage and recyclable materials remains available at Clearwater County’s existing transfer stations (see list below).

For more details, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions for Garbage and Recycling Services page or download the PDF version.

Starting Tuesday, February 2, 2021, County residents can dispose of garbage and limited recyclable materials at the Temporary Central Transfer Station located roughly 4 kilometres north of Rocky Mountain House (east off Highway 22 at NE 03-40-7-W5M near the Rocky Mountain House Airport).

Temporary Central Transfer Station

  • Open Tuesdays to Saturdays, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
  • Starting Tuesday, February 1, 2021
  • Accepting: bagged garbage, mixed paper and old corrugated cardboard
  • Bulk loads and other recyclable materials can be disposed of at the Regional Landfill and Clearwater County's existing transfer stations

The Temporary Central Transfer Station is an interim solution that will allow the County to assess current service level demands and prepare a permanent location near Rocky Mountain House that is cost-effective, convenient for County residents and aligns with long-term planning objectives.

With the dissolution of the Rocky Mountain Regional Solid Waste Authority (RMRSWA), the Town of Rocky Mountain House, the Village of Caroline and Clearwater County have acknowledged that their respective visions for garbage and recycling services vary significantly. The re-organization of garbage and recycling services is an opportunity for the County to pursue a solid waste management strategy that fits the unique needs of its rural residents and avoids costly duplication of services.
